Meet our Alumni Ambassador
Dr Robert Samuel Birch (BEng Hons Mechanical Engineering 1980; PhD Mechanical Engineering 1987) is based in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. His early career focused on precision engineering and design for the aerospace, nuclear and bioengineering sectors. He spent much of his career at the University of Liverpool’s internationally recognised Impact Research Centre, conducting research in Structural Crashworthiness, teaching, and collaborating with major industrial partners across Europe. His long-standing connection with Brazil stems from several sabbaticals as a Visiting Researcher at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Federal University of São Bernardo do Campo (UFABC), where he conducted research into hearing protection, shock absorption and structural vibration.
