The University of Liverpool's Alumni Ambassador Programme brings together dedicated graduates who help connect, support and inspire our global alumni community.
Our Alumni Ambassadors are volunteers who represent the University in their local region, helping graduates stay connected with Liverpool and with one another. Through networking opportunities, social activities and professional events, they play an important role in strengthening lifelong connections between alumni and the University.
Whether you're looking to reconnect with fellow graduates, expand your professional network, or give back to the Liverpool community, becoming an Alumni Ambassador is a rewarding way to make a difference.
Our alumni network structures
The University supports alumni communities in a variety of ways depending on local needs and opportunities.
- Officer-led networks: in some regions, alumni engagement is supported by University staff based locally.
- Alumni associations: some networks operate through established alumni associations that work closely with the University.
- Ambassador groups: many networks are led by a team of volunteer Alumni Ambassadors who work together to support local alumni activity.
- Individual ambassadors: in some locations, a single ambassador acts as the primary contact and representative for the local alumni community.
No matter the structure, all networks share the same goal to help Liverpool graduates stay connected wherever they are in the world.
What do Alumni Ambassadors do?
Every alumni network is unique, but ambassadors typically:
- Bring graduates together through networking, social and professional events
- Welcome alumni who are new to the area
- Help alumni build personal and professional connections
- Support and moderate digital communities, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, LINE or other local platforms
- Share University news, opportunities and achievements
- Encourage engagement with students and recent graduates
- Act as advocates for the University of Liverpool and its global community
The role is flexible and designed to fit around existing work and personal commitments.
Why become an Alumni Ambassador?
As an Alumni Ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Build your professional and personal network
- Develop leadership, communication and community-building skills
- Stay connected with the University of Liverpool
- Support fellow graduates in your region and online
- Help grow both local alumni networks and digital communities
- Contribute to a global alumni community spanning more than 300,000 graduates worldwide
- Gain recognition for your volunteer contribution through University communications and alumni initiatives
Most ambassadors volunteer just a few hours each month, with activity levels varying throughout the year.
How the programme works
Our Alumni Ambassador Programme follows a simple lifecycle designed to support volunteers every step of the way.
- Recruit: we identify potential ambassadors through recommendations, referrals, outreach and expressions of interest from alumni.
- Onboard: new ambassadors receive guidance, training and support to help them succeed in the role.
- Activate: ambassadors begin supporting their local network through events, communications, digital communities and alumni engagement activities.
- Support: the Development and Alumni Relations Team (DART) provides ongoing resources, advice, promotional support and regular contact throughout the year.
- Recognise: we celebrate the achievements and contributions of our ambassadors through alumni stories, University communications and award opportunities.
