Alumni and supporter community: Our year in pictures 2024
We’ve had a fantastic year and are so grateful for everyone who has joined us in our work. Before we kick off 2025 we wanted to pause and look back on everything we achieved together in 2024.
1. Volunteers
This year we’ve been joined by over 2,400 volunteers. If you’d like to get involved too, here are our current volunteer opportunities.
2. Alumni Awards
We had a fantastic day celebrating our amazing Alumni Award winners, including TV doctor Amir Khan.
3. Donations
902 of you have made donations that we’ve been able to use to support students and more than £4 million has been given to support our transformative research. Thank you for making a difference!
4. Reunions
We’ve welcomed many of our graduates back to Liverpool this year, including an archaeology friendship group formed 20 years ago, a class year from Derby Halls, an electrical engineering group celebrated almost 60 years of friendship and the School of Veterinary Science’s Class 1979 met for their annual celebrations.
5. Jasmin Paris first woman to complete Barkley Marathons
In April this year, Dr Jasmin Paris MBE (BVSc 2008), a University of Liverpool alumna and 2019 Alumni Award winner, became the first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons, one of the world’s toughest ultramarathons.
6. International Networks
We have many active global networks, including Canada, Nigeria, Germany, UAE and China, who have continued to meet in their respective countries.
7. Student Fund
We’ve been raising money for our students and have been working with the wonderful Elouise as part of our campaign.
8. The Sir Peter Rigby Centre launched
We launched the Sir Peter Rigby Centre for Enterprise this October. The Centre will transform student employability, raising the level of enterprise education and entrepreneurial skills development across the University community and Liverpool City Region with the aim of reaching 50,000 people within its 3-year pilot.
9. USA trip
Team members Suzie and Michaela travelled to the USA in October for a special alumni reunion event in New York and connected with graduates in Atlanta for an exciting event with Coca-Cola CEO and graduate, James Quincey.
10. £1 million boost to support equine facilities
The University received a £1 million donation from the Lord Leverhulme’s Charitable Trust to support new equine facilities at our Leahurst campus.
11. Events in Hong Kong
It was wonderful catching up with so many of you in Hong Kong in December, hearing about what you’ve been up to since graduating. Thank you also to Hin Han and Tommy for sharing their experience of studying at the University and the importance of their scholarship.
12. Celebrating 120 years of the Vet School
October marked the 120th anniversary of the University of Liverpool’s School of Veterinary Science. Over the last 120 years, it has become an innovative centre, delivering world-firsts and built a reputation as one of the best Veterinary Schools in the world.
13. Olympic bronze for graduate Oli Wilkes
This summer Aerospace Engineering graduate Oli Wilkes won bronze for Team GB in the Men's Rowing Four Final at this year's Olympics in Paris.
14. Graduation
We celebrated 10,661 graduates joining our wonderful alumni community at our summer and winter graduation.
15. Digital Alumni Magazine
Our annual Alumni magazine went digital this year and featured exciting interviews with some of our leading alumni: lawyer and TV presenter Denise Nurse, social engineer Jenny Radcliffe, and tech entrepreneur Jesse Lyu.
16. Physics graduate wins national nuclear skills award
In March, Natasha Khah won Graduate of the Year at the annual UK Nuclear Skills Awards.
17. Alumni honoured in New Year’s Honours list
A number of leading University of Liverpool alumni, including Dame Amanda Blanc were conferred with honours in the New Year Honours 2024.
18. 100 years of RIBA Accreditation celebration events
To celebrate 100 years since RIBA accredited its first course in Liverpool, the School of Architecture hosted a series of celebration events for alumni, staff, students, and supporters.
19. Bringing the World to Liverpool events
We were delighted to hear from some of our incredible alumni this year during our Bringing the World to Liverpool event series. Including distinguished healthcare professional David Alexander, CEO and Lead Client Partner at RP International, Julian Frankum, Managing Director at Unipart Manufacturing group, Carol Rose Burke, and JP Morgan graduate scheme recipient, Henry Mort.
20. Event in Singapore
It was great to catch up with our alumni in Singapore in December. Graduates were joined by Dean of the Management School, Professor Julia Balogun for a special dinner.
