National Volunteers' Week 1 - 7 June
This week, as we mark National Volunteers' Week, we celebrate the thousands of alumni volunteers who each year donate their valuable time to help our students with mentoring and employability opportunities, and help the University achieve its strategic aims.
Alumni Awards
The 2020 Alumni awards ceremony takes place later this month and will celebrate the 22 alumni, including 10 recent graduates, whose achievements have been rewarded this year.
University appoints new Dean of Veterinary Science
The University has appointed Professor Paul Lunn (BVSc Hons 1982) as its new Dean of Veterinary Science. Professor Lunn will succeed Professor Susan Dawson who is stepping down from her role as Dean after 10 years in the post.

Alumni Memories: The University of Liverpool alumnus who brought you the postcode
In 1975, alumnus Professor Jim Alty who at that time was Director of the Computer Centre at the University of Liverpool, was contacted by the Merseyside and North Wales Brewing Association. Little did he realise that that was the start of his involvement in the development of what would become the postcode.
Liverpool Connect
Our new and improved Liverpool Connect is now live! Liverpool Connect is our online networking platform, offering alumni the opportunity to share their career advice and story with current students and fellow alumni through informal mentoring.

The Management School's free online webinars provide a toolkit of skills to help you excel in your career. Each theme offers new ways of thinking about international business issues and are presented by a member of academic staff or fellow alumni with industry expertise. You can access the recordings of previous webinars, free of charge, at any time, wherever you are located in the world.
Ensemble 10/10 at the Tung Auditorium
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic's Ensemble 10/10 recently announced it will make the Tung Auditorium its new home, when the new Yoko Ono Lennon Centre opens in Spring 2022.
Musical Memories: Made In Liverpool
At our recent online fundraising event for the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, Artistic Director Richard Hartwell talked to Campaign Ambassadors Nick Riddle and Robin Bloxsidge about their musical memories and enjoyed a musical interlude from Harbottle and Jonas. Professor Tom Solomon elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences
Professor Tom Solomon, Chair of Neurology and Director of the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections at the University of Liverpool, is among 50 world-leading UK researchers to be elected to the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Obituary: Emeritus Professor Trevor Norton
The University is saddened to hear of the passing of Trevor Norton (BSc Hons Botany 1963, PhD 1966) (1940 – 2021) Emeritus Professor of Marine Ecology and Head of the University of Liverpool’s Port Erin Marine Laboratory.
