LivUni Mentors is a fantastic program that offers you the opportunity to share your career advice and story with current students and fellow alumni through informal mentoring via Handshake. Handshake is an online career platform that connects students and recent graduates with job and internship opportunities from top employers.
How does it work?
Create a professional profile on Handshake and join the LivUni Mentors group. Your profile will appear to our current students and fellow alumni looking for a mentor based on their interests and career goals. They can then contact you through the platform’s messaging system with questions. We encourage mentees and mentors to define the type of relationship they are looking for. Whether it be a simple question and answer e-networking relationship or a longer, formal mentoring relationship.

How can I help?
Below are just a few of the ways you can support a mentee:

Get Started
- First, read the LivUniMentors Code of Conduct
- Then, familiarise yourself with the mentors’ guide at the bottom of this page (or click here for the full view). It will tell you all you need to know about Handshake, activating your account and using the platform and the mentoring group
- Activate your account on Handshake (if you are struggling, please register your details here)
- Complete your profile information manually, or let Handshake do it for you by uploading your CV
- Then join LivUni Mentors by adding it to your profile (for more info see below)
- Sit back and wait for a student to contact you
Joining the mentoring group
Once you have activated your Handshake account and logged in, you can access the mentoring group's directory by clicking here. To join the group and ensure that your profile is displayed in the directory, go to your profile by clicking on your initials at the top-right corner of your screen. On your profile, scroll to "Organisations & Extracurriculars", add "Mentor" as a new position and pick "LivUni Mentors" from the list of organisations.
Privacy Policy
The Careers and Development and Alumni Relations teams are working to connect alumni and students through informal mentoring programme LivUni Mentors via Handshake. The personal data of those taking part in LivUni Mentors will be shared with the Development and Alumni Relations team according to their privacy policy.
