Alumni reconnect across India as community continues to grow

More than 130 University of Liverpool alumni gathered across India this February, reconnecting with the University and with one another at a series of events held in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai.

The gatherings offered more than just networking. They provided a chance for alumni to revisit shared memories of Liverpool while building new connections with fellow graduates across generations.

The University returned to Bengaluru and Mumbai, where alumni events have been hosted previously, while Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai welcomed Liverpool alumni events for the first time. Together, the five gatherings brought alumni together from across two decades of graduating classes, from 2004 to recent graduates of 2025.

Throughout the evenings, conversations ranged from career journeys and industry insights to favourite Liverpool memories. Recent graduates had the opportunity to connect with alumni already established in their fields, exchanging advice and experiences while discovering the strength of Liverpool’s global alumni community.

The events were hosted by colleagues visiting from Liverpool, including Professor Julia Balogun, Dean of the University of Liverpool Management School; Professor Tolga Bektas, Associate Dean (International), Management School; and Lisa Gerraty, Alumni Engagement Manager, Management School.

Reflecting on the events, Professor Julia Balogun said: "We were delighted to return to Bengaluru and Mumbai to reconnect with our alumni at our annual networking events. It was equally wonderful to welcome so many alumni to our inaugural events in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai. These gatherings mark the beginning of valuable networks that our alumni can engage with and benefit from in the years ahead.”

For many alumni, the gatherings built the strong sense of community they experienced during their time at Liverpool. Shraddha Agrawal (MiM 2019), who attended the Bengaluru event, said: "Thank you for hosting this lovely alumni meetup. It was a pleasure reconnecting and revisiting some cherished campus memories!"

In Chennai, Viknesh Ravi Malathy (MSc Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technology 2024) reflected on the growing global Liverpool community: "It was truly a fantastic evening in Chennai! It was great reconnecting with fellow alumni and seeing the strong global network of the University of Liverpool continue to grow. The sense of community and shared pride in Liverpool was genuinely inspiring."

The events also highlighted the University’s growing engagement with India, including plans for the University of Liverpool’s new campus in Bengaluru, which will further strengthen links with students, partners and alumni across the country.

As the alumni network in India continues to grow, the University hopes these events will become a regular fixture in the alumni calendar, creating more opportunities for graduates to reconnect, share experiences and support the next generation of Liverpool students and alumni.
