What was your best experience while studying your course at the University of Liverpool?

The diverse nature of modules makes this a very tricky one to answer, but if pushed, “The true origin of Robin Hood” would be near the top. This type of essay represents everything I love about history, and shows the key differences in the way history is approached from Secondary to Higher Education. Armed with key information, various memorandum & myth, I had to discover the true origins of the Robin Hood character. It was generally an interesting & thought provoking module that makes for a great anecdote!

Why did you choose Liverpool?

I selected the University of Liverpool as it is a well-respected university, one of the few remaining Red Bricks and situated in an area with a passion for sport that matches my own. The history of the city surrounds you: the culture of the Tate Modern; the docks & Liverpool One all of which combined with the nightlife made it a must for me.

Which aspects of your course do you think have been the most beneficial to your career development?

Doing a joint honours degree (History and Politics) has given me two approaches to lean on when considering any project, the theoretical and the practical. This has enabled me to ring fence my creative ideas with a solid realistic base. The analytical nature of History has taught me how to process the important data I need. The Politics side I believe has given me a greater scope and understanding of people and their trends – understanding “no one size fits all” approach has enabled me to think creatively about how promotions and campaigns should be shaped.

Do you have any top tips to share with future and current students?

For those looking to work in Digital Marketing, it’s important to be open to what’s happening around you. Take stock of what companies are doing and remember interesting campaigns you have seen. Recognising trends and new tactics that appeal will help you to identify which area of media that is the best fit for you. There are two main options for those open to this industry: agency or network. Both will give you great experience and exposure to how things work, build your knowledge base and give you genuine skills you can use and take forward, after that the world is your oyster.
