"My own personal memory of the day occurred outside the Philharmonic Hall, met by my girlfriend Sheila. As we stood chatting a man with a camera came up and said "Can I take a photo of you two please? I need a picture of a typical graduate to go with an article on the degree ceremony of the University for publication in the Liverpool Echo." So we stood and posed and indeed that day it was printed and published and we had our five minutes of fame. The reporter/camera man sent me a copy and it is attached. If you wanted to use it I could take a better picture of it as this one is through glass."

"Unfortunately I missed my graduation day in 1972 - instead, I had the opportunity to go to the US for 3 months where I met a young lady. We fell in love, married and moved to the UK in 1973. We returned to the US in 1976 where I have been here ever since. So missing my graduation ended up being a turning point on my life."

"Our results were put up on the notice board. My eyes hurriedly scanned the list. For a fleeting moment, I could not find my name. Time seemed to stand still. Then, before I could gather myself, I felt a friend lift me onto his shoulders and shout with uncontainable joy: “Sushrut… you made it! And you are the youngest!”."
