The University of Liverpool is delighted to celebrate three graduates who reached the finalist stage of the 2026 Study UK Alumni Awards.

The Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of international UK alumni worldwide, honouring international leaders who have made significant contributions to their communities, industries, and countries.

Mariam Zahid Malik – University of Liverpool (MPH Public Health 2015)

Social Action Award Finalist at the Pakistan Awards

Mariam is a public health professional specialising in digital health systems and health systems strengthening in Pakistan, working to change the way tuberculosis care is delivered.

On being named a Study UK Award finalist, she said: “Being selected as a finalist for the Study UK Alumni Awards is an honour in itself. It feels deeply affirming to see work rooted in public health and social impact recognised on an international platform. For me, this recognition is not just personal—it reflects the resilience of the communities we serve in Pakistan and the dedication of the teams I work with.

The experience has strengthened my belief that impactful work happening in low- and middle-income countries deserves global visibility. It has also been a moment of reflection—reminding me how far the journey has come and how much more remains to be done.

The academic foundation and confidence I gained in Liverpool continue to influence every major initiative I lead—from designing digital health platforms to shaping policy discussions. My time at the University did not just add credentials to my profile; it transformed how I think, lead, and create change.

Dr Hussein Hussein – University of Liverpool (PhD Architecture 2020)

Culture, Creativity and Sport Award Finalist at the Egypt Awards

Hussein is an architect with more than 14 years of experience in academia and professional practice. My work today spans architectural education, digital fabrication, and innovative public-service projects, all driven by a desire to create real impact in my community. The mindset and skills I gained at Liverpool—critical thinking, creativity, and global collaboration—have shaped every step of my career and continue to guide the work I do.”
