Alumni in Hong Kong reunite for Liverpool FC’s Asia Tour

University of Liverpool alumni in Hong Kong had a memorable opportunity to come together this summer, when the LFC Foundation kindly provided tickets for Liverpool FC’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan. The match formed part of Liverpool’s Asia Tour, with the club arriving in Hong Kong with a star-studded squad featuring Mohamed Salah, Luis Díaz and new signing Florian Wirtz.
Through the Foundation’s support, 24 tickets were provided to graduates living in the city, giving them the chance to enjoy world-class football while reconnecting with each other and with their alma mater.
In appreciation, alumni who attended gifted £560 to the Foundation, helping to support its international community programmes.
Suzie Thompson, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Liverpool, said: “We are so grateful to the LFC Foundation for making this experience possible for our alumni community in Hong Kong. It was a wonderful opportunity for graduates to come together, enjoy the match and strengthen their connection both to the University and to the city of Liverpool, no matter how far away they live.”
While Liverpool did not come away with a win on the pitch, the event left a lasting impact off it, reinforcing the close ties between the University, Liverpool FC, and the city itself. Alumni spoke of how experiences like this remind them that being part of the University of Liverpool community continues long after graduation.
Matt Parish, Chief Executive of LFC Foundation, added: “We were delighted to welcome University of Liverpool alumni to the game in Hong Kong and are hugely appreciative of the donations received in support of our work. Football has a unique power to bring people together, and it’s fantastic to see that shared spirit of Liverpool making a difference around the world.”
Further collaboration
The opportunity for alumni to come together and attend the match in Hong Kong reflects the broader collaboration between the University and the Foundation. Earlier in the summer, master’s students presented their dissertation findings at Anfield, offering valuable insights into how the Foundation gathers and uses feedback from participants, families, partners, and volunteers. Their recommendations are helping to shape future practice, highlighting how the partnership between the University and the Foundation creates opportunities for shared learning and real-world impact – from Liverpool to Hong Kong and beyond.
