Last month the University of Liverpool Management School proudly hosted an event with Group CEO of Aviva, Dame Amanda Blanc at Woburn House in London.

Professor Julia Balogun, Dean Management School, welcomed guests to the Liverpool Leaders event series. The events celebrate University of Liverpool alumni who have become global leaders in their industries and aim to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Amanda joined Dr Dane Anderton, Director of Studies for the MBA programme for an insightful discussion. The conversation spanned Amanda's early memories of the University, her distinctive leadership style, the challenges and opportunities within the insurance industry, and her notable career highlights.

Alumni in attendance engaged in a lively Q&A session where Amanda shared her candid reflections and insights.

Following the talk, alumni, students and staff connected with one another during a drinks’ reception.

Top takeaway: Keep strategy simple and execute

Suzie Thompson, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations at University of Liverpool, who closed the event said: “It was a brilliant wide ranging conversation followed by the most engaged audience Q&A. Top take aways: keep strategy simple and execute; if you say you’ll do something, make sure you follow through; there is no substitute for hard work; take the opportunities given to you; pick yourself up quickly after your failures; be curious, keep learning and be a good communicator”.

This event supports the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful engagement with industry professionals and strengthening the bonds within the growing alumni community.
