1. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Nobel prize-winning author Ishiguro tells the story of student Kathy and her friends as they come to terms with childhood and the fate of the wider world.

2. Confessions of a Forty-something F##k up by Alexandra Potter (BA Hons English Literature 1991)
Potter’s book tells the story of forty-something Nell, who finds herself starting over again after her life doesn’t go according to plan.
3. Dead Man Walking by Margaret Murphy (BSc Hons Environmental Biology 1980)

Described as a ‘compulsive thriller’ by fellow University of Liverpool graduate and author Ann Cleeves, Dead Man Walking follows the murder of a witness before the trail of notorious crime boss. Perfect for crime lovers!
A top pick by current student Athiene, Stoner is the story of a quiet man, destined to be a farmer who becomes an academic.
Athiene said, “This is the book that made me fall back in love with reading and inspires me in my goal to become a university lecturer!”
5. The Doctor Will See You Now: The highs and lows of my life as an NHS GP by Dr Amir Khan (MBChB 2004)
GP, graduate and Alumni Award winner, Dr Khan’s The Doctor Will See You Now is a fly-on-the-wall account of the GP’s crucial role in returning us to a healthy, stable society post-pandemic.
Dr Khan joined us for our annual Liverpool Literary Festival in 2021 and 2023, you can catch up with both events on our festival player.
