Alumnus Peter Geraghty inaugurated as President of Planning Officers’ Society
Master’s in Civic Design and PhD graduate, Dr Peter Geraghty has recently been inaugurated as President of the Planning Officers’ Society for 2024-25.
The society represents 2,000 individual planners working in 80% of the local authorities and public sector organisations around England. They provide a support network for planners in the public sector, promoting best practice in planning, along with operating as a think tank and lobbying organisation.
Since graduating with his PhD in 1999, Dr Geraghty’s career has seen him take on roles such as President of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 2013-14 and Vice-President of the Commonwealth Association of Planners from 2018 to 2020.
He currently holds the positions of Executive Director at Hertsmere Borough Council and Trustee at the Town and Country Planning Association. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute, member of the Chartered Institute of Building, Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS).
