2019 graduation: 10 memories to take away

Graduation

In July, more than 6,000 students were on campus to receive their degrees at ceremonies held at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and celebrate across campus. Here are 10 of our best things to remember from this year's graduations.

University isn't just about the skills and the qualification, it's the friends you meet along the way. We love the big smiles in front of the Victoria Gallery & Museum in this photo!

Graduation is a celebration not just for our new graduates, but for all the family and friends who have contributed to their success. We saw a lot of proud, crying parents during graduation week, and this was one of the highlights!

3. Welcoming our honorary graduates

Heidi Thomas and Stephen McGann

We awarded nine honorary degrees across the week, beginning with former regeneration chief, Max Steinberg on Monday and finishing with Liverpool alumna, US District Judge Wendy Beetlestone on Friday. Other recipients included BBC director general, Lord Tony Hall; internationally renowned artists The Singh Twins; founder of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, Professor Ray Donnelly; writer and producer, Heidi Thomas; actor and science communicator, Stephen McGann (both pictured above); and  Justice of the High Court, Sir Stephen Cobb. Read more…

There were plenty of caps being thrown in celebration all week! This one on Abercromby Square was perfectly timed!

Big smiles and sun shine were on display for most of the week, and graduates made the most of it with photos on University Square! Though there were not quite as many on Friday...

6. Perserverance!

*WARNING* : A typical message that captions the killer graduation photo! In the simplest form, my journey to Liverpool wasn’t straight forward; lacking confidence in myself, thinking I was not capable of taking on the challenge of starting an Architectural degree, let alone, finishing. But as you take the time to look at my graduation posts...what you’ll see is a resilient woman who took a step to grow in: intelligence, skill, perseverance, grace, humility, patience and endurance. This degree brought me to my knees...literally and metaphorically lol and all I can do is give thanks to God for trusting me to handle this journey. ✨ Today : 18 . 07 . 19 ‘Onwards and Upwards’

Getting your degree takes a lot of hard work and perserverance. Well done to all the Class of 2019!

7. Inspirational graduates

Student Speaker Elizabeth Hancock Delivering Her Speech

Each ceremony included a fantastic contribution from a student speaker, who was chosen to represent their graduating cohort. Read about one graduate, Beth's, story. Management School graduate Elizabeth Hancock (pictured above) spoke at the first ceremony on Monday and said: “Before leaving home to come to University four years ago, I wasn’t sure what the future had in store for me… I was prepared to learn, explore, and make new friends and develop as an individual. As I stand here today, I am proud to say that I made the best decision to come to the University of Liverpool.” Read more…
