A portrait of Professor Louise Kenny has been unveiled as part of an exhibition celebrating the contributions of women worldwide.
The Executive Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is featured alongside paintings of PJ Harvey, Grace Jones, and Björk in ICONIC WOMEN at dot-art Gallery in Liverpool.
Her portrait, created by Ukrainian artist Mariana Potetenko, honours Professor Kenny’s pioneering work in women’s health, her resilience as a cancer survivor, and her significant contributions to medical research.
Professor Louise Kenny said: “I am delighted and humbled to be included alongside some amazing Liverpudlian women in this wonderful collection by Mariana Potetenko. I have never been painted before and it is such an unexpected and wonderful honour.”
Mariana Potetenko said: “As a Ukrainian artist who made Liverpool my home in 2022 after the war in Ukraine began, I was deeply moved to be part of this exhibition dedicated to the remarkable women of this city. Creating these portraits allowed me to connect with Liverpool on a deeper level and celebrate the women who have made an indelible mark on its history. My selection includes women from diverse backgrounds and fields, each representing a unique aspect of Liverpool’s rich heritage.”
ICONIC WOMEN also features work by dot-art artists Charlotte Weatherstone and Kirsten Todd. Running until Saturday 29 March the exhibition coincides with Women’s History Month, highlighting women who have shaped progress in science, sports, media, and culture - both locally and on the world stage.
