Former students honoured at inaugural Alumni Awards

The University of Liverpool welcomed former students from around the world to the very first Alumni Awards.
In total, 20 alumni were honoured at the event, half of whom completed their studies in the last decade.
University of Liverpool Vice Chancellor Professor Dame Janet Beer said: “As a university we are so proud of our talented, international alumni community, they are such a fundamentally important part of the university family.
“Our award winners work in areas such as the arts, business, communications, health, law, politics and the charitable sector.
“Some lead the way on issues such as knife crime, indigenous rights, animal welfare, and sexual violence whilst others have great sporting achievements to their names.
“Others still have made a real difference to the university community, volunteering with us and supporting our alumni activity.
“It felt only right to provide an opportunity to celebrate their achievements properly and what better way to do this than through these new awards?”
The ceremony was held in the University’s iconic Victoria Gallery & Museum and 18 of the 20 honoured alumni were able to join the Vice-Chancellor and other distinguished guests to receive their awards.
Among them was Justin Ferby, who was making his first visit to the city having secured his MBA through the University’s sector-leading online provision.
Justin is the Deputy Minister for the Department of Economic Development for the Yukon Government and the President and CEO of the Yukon Development Corporation, he said: “Considering where I reside - in Canada's north - it is amazing that across the ocean, at a prestigious University, I could be recognized for my work in a small First Nation community.
“My University of Liverpool education has been put to the best use.
“I am proud of the associations made with the many talented students I collaborated with during my MBA studies.
“For those I share tonight with are truly inspiring leaders – I am confident to say we are all fortunate for the time we spent at the University of Liverpool.”
Other winners were Dr Jaclyn Bell, Lucy Byrne, Dan Chambers, Danielle Chan, Dr Ebony Escalona, Dr Danielle Greenberg, Dr Muhammad Khan, Professor Charles Kingsland, Dr Sze May Ng, Faith Osiobe, Rob Owen OBE, Jasmin Paris, Steve Peacock, Ioan Roberts, Roisin Ross, Megan Stammers, Professor Michael Thrasher, Dr Sean Wensley and James Yu.
