Having studied a Geology and Physical Geography degree at the University, art isn’t quite the career path that Paul would have predicted. He spent years working in the oil industry, before swapping one type of oil for oil paint. He has since become one of the most recognisable artists in Merseyside.
Responsible for creating over 150 public artworks, his most famous mural, For All Liverpool’s Liver Birds has proved to be a particular high point in his career to date, creating a popular tourist landmark for the city and attracting attention from all corners of the globe.
His work can be seen across the Liverpool City Region, with football murals at Liverpool, Everton, Tranmere and Marine, as well as tributes to the Beatles and other Liverpool icons such as Ken Dodd. His work has also reached Hollywood. Paul was commissioned by director Danny Boyle to create a large installation mural for Lime Street Station to be a backdrop in the 2019 film, Yesterday.
In 2022, Paul set the record for the largest painting by a single artist when he painted Ainsley and Dale, two sand lizards painted on Toad Hall at Ainsdale.
Paul has also done a number of works for the University of Liverpool. In 2020, he pained Forever Home a special piece that was sent to all 2020 graduates of the University to celebrate their graduation. In 2021, he created ‘Strength, Hope and Recovery’ which featured on the front cover of Alumni magazine, with a recreation of his For All Liverpool’s Liver Bird’s showing a frontline health care worker kneeling infront of the Liver Bird wings.
Finally, in 2023, Paul was commissioned to celebrate Liverpool’s hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine. Peace and Love can be found on Guild Walk.
