In 2003, Catherine graduated from the University, completing Part 2 of her architecture qualification. In September, she started working at a firm in Handforth, Cheshire.
In December, her parents were both tragically killed in a car accident in her home country of Malawi.
Taking compassionate leave, she returned to Malawi to sort family matters. Of particular concern was a school that her late parents had started, her mother’s dream.
Catherine and her siblings decided to keep the school, Good Shepherd International School, running. The school follows from Baby Class through to High School and following the National Curriculum for England and Wales, and Catherine serves as its Education Director.
The school is almost 30 years old, with Catherine having served on it’s Board for 20. Thousands have passed through its doors with more than 150 having sat their IGCSEs.
In 2009, Catherine was able to return to her dream job of architecture, regaining her professional registration in Malawi. In 2018, she started her own small practice.
Catherine is a prime example of a career not always following the path you expect, but showing strength and resilience.
