Sheng Ying

As National Officer at the China Office of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Sheng is an advocate for sustainable development in China. His projects have benefited thousands of people and he has coordinated work with the University’s Geography and Planning Department.

After graduation, he worked as an urban planner at the Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning and Design Institute and was called upon as an urban planning expert supporting more than 100 urban planning projects across China.

Joining UN-Habitat in 2018, he developed diverse influential programmes to support sustainable urban-rural development including the UN-Habitat Rural Revitalization Programme to provide sustainable rural planning, rural industry development and village branding helping villagers and their lives.

He also creates new methods to summarise best smart city practice and led and developed the flagship report Future Cities Advisory Outlook which provides insights on how to enhance urban sustainability with smart technologies and is reported to Under-Secretary-General of the UN and recommended member states.

“I proactively promote sustainable development courses to students in universities across China and supports charity by helping to donate water cellars for villagers who struggle to find water in Kenya.”
