Joy Duncan

The Nigerian Alumni Association is one of the most active in the global alumni network. Working with last year’s Alumni Award winner Faith Osiobe, the success of the Association is down to a team effort, and our winners Joy Duncan, Okeoghene Ekere, Uruemu Esiri Oghen, Queen Elizabeth Okwum and Lola Olaide-Stephen are receiving their awards in recognition of great team work.

As on online student, Joy was able to get the most out of her University experience, making and sustaining friendships across international boundaries and shaping her skills in the business world and her future career.

After graduation, she started her own aviation business, Omni-Blu Aviation Limited, with two friends and found a niche in the market which included services for aerial aviation for agricultural purposes, calibration of navigational aids and air ambulance assistance. Sitting on the Board as Executive Director, she oversees the finance, administration, HR, legal and business development side of the organisation.

Meeting Faith in a common room forum, who was just starting the MBA programme Joy was nearing the end of, she kept in touch and offered her help to the newly formed Nigerian Alumni Association. Joy said: “I saw the need to volunteer from the beginning and have served as Coordinator of the Lagos/South West Zone of the network, planning everything from alumni events to resolving any issues within the zone.”

Recently, Joy helped Faith resolve an issue in the Abuja/Northern zone although it isn’t part of her network. Faith said: “She dedicated her time to mediate and together we were able to resolve the issues making the group active again.”

Joy is proud of the collective effort of the all the volunteers and the commitment in sustaining the network. “Six years and counting, the alumni network is still here, growing and impacting its members in more positives ways.”
