About the event
📅 Date and Time: Thursday 6 November 2025, 5:30pm - 7:00pm
📍 Venue: Leggate Theatre, Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool
As part of the annual Barrie Edwards Memorial Lecture series, record-breaking ultrarunner, mother, veterinarian and scientist Jasmin Paris MBE will share her journey in sport, and how she continues to balance it alongside an academic career and motherhood.
She launched into the media spotlight in January 2019 when she won the 268-mile Montane Spine race outright, breaking the overall record by 12 hours, and beating her nearest rival by 15 hours. In 2024, she became the first woman to finish the infamous Barkley Marathons in Tennessee, something many had previously considered to be an impossible feat for a woman.
She will discuss her preparation for extreme events such as The Spine Race and the Barkley Marathons, as well as the experiences themselves, from the hallucinations induced by sleep deprivation to the extreme exhaustion of the Barkley Marathons sprint finish, which she completed with just 99 seconds to spare.
What you’ll get from attending the event:
• Exclusive insights into how Jasmin prepared for and conquered some of the world’s toughest ultra-endurance races, including The Spine Race and the Barkley Marathons.
• Inspiration and practical takeaways on resilience, balance, and pursuing ambitious goals while managing career and family life.
• Opportunities to connect and network with fellow alumni, University staff and students.
