A celebration of culture, connection, and vision

Day one kicked off with a lively welcome reception and networking evening. Guests were treated to an energetic Rivers State cultural performance, local cuisine, and an evening filled with music and meaningful connections. A highlight of the night was the announcement of the National Essay Competition winners, with alumnus Jude Atebe reading the winning essay aloud. Chief Adeleke Adedipe delivered a stirring keynote address on the global impact of alumni networks, emphasising the importance of collaboration, mentorship, and service. The evening featured a red-carpet experience and an alumni awards ceremony recognising outstanding contributions. The night continued with games, entertainment, and a dance party.

There was also a surprise message from the Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Jones. A clip of his message:

You have very successfully built an alumni network in Nigeria, which has become a shining example of alumni engagement, mutual support, and lasting connection. I would like to say a huge thank you for all that you have done and will, I’m sure, continue to do to support your alma mater.

Celebrating Young Voices: National Essay Competition

A major highlight of the anniversary was the announcement of winners in the National Essay Competition themed “The Role and Effect of Information Technology on the Nigerian Child”.
