There’s always something happening at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital. From innovative research and digital tools to new CPD opportunities, the team is continually working to support the veterinary community and improve patient care. Here’s the latest from SATH, including a new Clinical Club, a promising clinical trial for cats with heart failure, and a new app to help track dog mobility.

Introducing SATH Clinical Club: Monthly CPD with Impact

The Small Animal Teaching Hospital, with input from the Veterinary Postgraduate Unit, is excited to launch Clinical Club, a new series of ten-month CPD sessions designed for busy veterinary professionals.

Covering a wide range of topics, from diabetes updates and multiparameter monitoring to challenging dermatology cases, Clinical Club offers accessible, practical learning led by our expert team.

New Clinical Trial: Hope for Cats with Heart Failure

SATH is proud to be part of a new international clinical trial investigating a novel treatment for cats with congestive heart failure due to cardiomyopathy.

We're looking for stable cats with well-managed heart failure who are already receiving medications such as Furosemide or Torasemide, Clopidogrel, and possibly an ACE inhibitor. Screening visit costs are fully covered, and if your cat qualifies ongoing trial visits are also funded by the sponsor (please note emergency care costs are not included).

Veterinary alumni: if you think you have a suitable case, please get in touch and you will be connected with the Cardiology team to discuss. This study is a vital step toward better treatment for cats with heart disease.

New App Supporting Canine Mobility Monitoring: Introducing DogMA

Developed by SATH’s Eithne Comerford in collaboration with the University of Liverpool IT Services, DogMA is a new digital tool designed to support the assessment and monitoring of canine mobility both in clinical and research settings.

Whether you're managing post-operative recovery, osteoarthritis, or age-related decline, DogMA helps track mobility changes over time to better inform treatment decisions.

Find out more and get involved, or download the app from the Apple App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android.
