From Liverpool to Madrid: Morgan Wilson's Graduate Journey
Posted on: 1 December 2025 in Where are they now?
Morgan Wilson, International Business graduate from the University of Liverpool, Class of 2024, shares how her placement year, summer abroad, and career moves have shaped her professional journey and led her to an exciting sales role in Madrid.
Why did you decide to study International Business at the University of Liverpool?
I chose International Business as I’ve always been interested in how companies operate across different markets and cultures. I wanted to gain a broad understanding of business, from marketing and management to strategy and finance. I was drawn to the international side as I knew I wanted to work in a global environment and understand both the global challenges and opportunities in business. After attending the open day at the University of Liverpool, it was my first choice.
I loved the campus, the city and the atmosphere. It had everything that I was looking for as a student!
How did your year in industry at SilverDoor shape your understanding of the professional world?
My year in industry with SilverDoor helped me apply my knowledge to a professional setting and gave me a realistic understanding of what it means to work in a fast-paced international environment. My role in account management showed me how important communication, teamwork and time management are in keeping things running smoothly, especially when working with clients across different time zones.
My placement allowed me to develop a strong mix of professional and interpersonal skills. This was my first time in an office environment but sharing the experience with a group of 7 other placement students made the transition much easier, we all shared a house as well, which was a lot of fun. I learned that success in the professional world isn’t just about technical skills, it’s about being adaptable, proactive and maintaining a positive attitude under pressure. I also noticed the importance of networking. I made some unforgettable memories during my placement, and I was trained in Salesforce which I now use in my current role.
What were the highlights from your International Business programme?
I loved my course so it’s hard to choose specifically, but my year in industry is undoubtedly a highlight. I learned so much about the professional environment and about myself. I made friends for life and couldn’t have asked for a better year. In final year, I had the opportunity to work at the Anfield Assessment Day to assess the first-year students. That was an insightful day and it was great to share some feedback with them. In terms of lectures, we had a strategic management assignment related to the Co-Op, where guest speakers from Co-Op visited us during our lectures. I enjoyed working on this as it made me feel connected to a real company project, using company data to formulate our assignment, I found it very interesting.
Can you describe your summer experience working in Events Sales with the Ibiza Rocks Group and what you learned from it?
Working abroad was an incredible experience. I was always eager to spend a summer abroad so I moved to Ibiza after I finished my degree. I took Spanish as an optional module at ULMS after studying it at A Level. This strongly encouraged my decision as I wanted to practice my Spanish. I was offered the role in February 2024 after two interviews and an assessment day in Dublin. This was one of the best experiences of my life. I met amazing people from all over the world, I had firsthand insight into how large-scale live music events operate behind the scenes. The fast-paced, high-pressure environment taught me how important communication, organisation and teamwork are, but it also showed me how much I enjoy competitive settings where hard work pays off. Seeing direct results from my efforts was highly motivating and really sparked my interest in sales.
What attracted you to the Inside Sales role at Cencora World Courier in Madrid?
I knew I wanted to work in sales as it's an extremely rewarding role. I was particularly interested in Madrid as I fell in love with the city when I visited during my secondment. I was working in a local hotel as an events coordinator then I saved up to go travelling Southeast Asia. After my travels, I returned to my previous role, but it wasn’t the right direction for my career. I managed to find this position at World Courier on LinkedIn and knew Madrid had to be the next step. They were seeking International Business graduates, with native English and a strong interest in sales so it was an ideal opportunity. The pharmaceutical logistics industry was new to me, and I was eager to learn more. The idea of contributing to the safe delivery of crucial medicines and samples that are saving people’s lives globally is highly rewarding. This is something I’m thrilled to be a part of.
How have you adapted to living and working in Spain, both professionally and culturally?
I think I have settled in and adapted well. The working hours are very similar to the UK and the office environment is very international. Everyone is super friendly which has made it easier to adapt. I would say there’s at least 12 different languages spoken in our office! However, it’s important to have some command of Spanish because although my role is in English, it's essential to speak Spanish for socialising outside of work, lunchtime chats and being able to really connect with the people here. I absolutely love the culture, lifestyle and people here, and of course the amazing food!
Looking ahead, what are your professional goals and aspirations over the next few years?
I plan to grow as a professional within the company, become an expert in my field, then use my knowledge to train others. I hope to exceed all my KPIs and close larger important deals with new and existing clients. I also want to prioritize networking. There are lots of networking events here in Madrid so I’m going to make the most of these and hopefully build strong connections here over the next few years and see what happens.
And finally, what advice would you give to graduates considering a placement year or working abroad after university?
If you are considering either, I would 100% recommend it! The skills you learn from these experiences are invaluable. It will help you discover what you’re truly passionate about and offers you life experience outside of textbooks. It really does shape your future and applies everything you have learned into practical settings, which is something that’s highly valued by employers today.
Make the most of every opportunity and if you have to force yourself out of your comfort zone, just go for it!
