Oliver Hall

Oliver is currently working as an Associate Investment Manager at Investec Wealth & Investment Management based in the Liverpool office.

I work in a team with two Investment Directors and assist them in the day-to-day management of portfolios for individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds. As part of my role I complete trades on behalf of clients, produce investment proposals, report on portfolio performance and assist with portfolio construction. Whilst in this role I have completed the Investment Advice Diploma with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and I am currently studying towards the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification.

My Economics degree certainly prepared me well for my current role. Not only by allowing me to undertake modules such as Securities Markets, Derivatives Securities and Behavioural Finance which are directly applicable in my position, but also provided me with a solid grounding in Macro and Microeconomics.

I utilised the University careers service when confronted with a difficult decision surrounding second year internship placements. They offered sound advice and supported me whilst I navigated the situation.

Whilst at University I took part in Mandarin lessons with the Liverpool Confucius Institute at both a beginner and intermediate level. In addition I led a team in the IBM University Business Challenge in the 2012/2013 competition. We reached the Grand Final and came forth, ranking in the top 1.3% of university teams nationwide. It was also a goal of mine to start the University of Liverpool Economics Society which I achieved in 2013.

I undertook several work experience placements whilst at University including an internship with Santander Global Banking & Markets in London during the summer of my second year. This involved rotations around five departments: Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), Corporate Sales, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Derivatives and Wholesale Funding. I also completed an extended placement in CIB following these rotations

I enjoyed every part of my student experience, particularly building relationships with friends which have continued following graduation.

Moving forward I would like to complete the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification and to achieve the MCSI designation with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. I also aim to continue to progress within my current role and to take on the management of client portfolios.
