Lord David Hunt: My life in the Law

Alumni are invited to get together and enjoy an evening in London with The Right Honourable the Lord David Hunt for a unique talk entitled: My life in the Law.

In his talk, Lord Hunt, will discuss his legal career journey and offer a unique insight into his life in the House of Lords and the challenges and opportunities currently facing the legal profession.

Lord Hunt has had long and illustrious careers in the law and in politics. He has been a partner at DAC Beachcroft since 1969 and now chairs its Financial Services Division, having previously served as Senior Partner for 10 years (1995-2005). He is chairman of the British Insurance Brokers' Association. After 21 years’ service as an MP in which he held three separate cabinet posts he was made a Life Peer in 1997.

Lord Hunt was independent Chair of the Press Complaints Commission between 2011 and 2014 and having recommended its abolition set up its successor body, the Independent Press Standards Organisation.

The talk has been organised by the Liverpool Law School Alumni Association (LLSAA) and will offer you an opportunity to connect with fellow Law School graduates, staff and those working in the legal profession.

About the speaker

The Right Honourable the Lord Hunt of Wirral MBE
Member of the House of Lords; Chairman, Financial Services Division, DAC Beachcroft LLP

Lord Hunt has been a partner at DAC Beachcroft since 1969 and now chairs its Financial Services Division, having previously served as Senior Partner for 10 years (1995-2005).

Lord Hunt was MP for Wirral, then Wirral West, from 1976 to 1997, during which time he held Cabinet posts under Margaret Thatcher and John Major, as Secretary of State for Wales, Secretary of State for Employment and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (and Minister for Public Service and Science). He was made a Life Peer in 1997. He was made chair of the Association of Conservative Peers in March 2106 and he is co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Legal and Constitutional Affairs and a member of the Select Committee on the Constitution.
